I grew up in State College, Pennsylvania, just a few miles away from Penn State University. I had an interest in sports and attended Penn State, believing that I wanted to work in professional sports when I graduated. During my junior year, I was sexually assaulted while walking home one evening and it changed the course of my life. I decided that I wanted to have a greater impact on the world and changed my major to Human Development and Family Studies. I moved to New Orleans to complete an internship required for graduation. I worked with the Tulane Infant Team, a team of psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers who provided therapy for children under the age of six who had been abused. I became inspired by the resilience of children as well as the vibrancy and creative vibes that filled New Orleans and I started to draw.
After graduation, I moved to New York City to work as a nanny while I waited for a job to open up with the Infant Team back in Louisiana. It was not long before I felt moved by the creativity of this new city. I fell in love with the energy of it and decided to stay. I began filling all of my spare time with art, first with sketching, then with digital art on my iPad, then moving to pen and ink. I discovered stippling in this process and never looked back.
I have spent thousands of hours over the past seven years teaching myself how to draw. I have been surprised by the improvement I have been able to achieve just by practicing and believing in myself. In March of 2021, I achieved the goal that I set for myself seven years ago, I became a full time artist. I believe that there is great power in art and its’ ability to heal. I hope to empower others with my work and I also want to be a loud voice for those brave enough to pursue their dream and chase their passion. If you put in the work, the hours, the time, the dedication, the hustle and you never stray from who you are, I firmly believe that you can be whatever you want to be!
